A Creative use for Scrap stuff...

And WHY I've been MIA!  So I had an uber busy week again...when don't I?  This week I had two speeches on Monday for class so spent all monday practicing those. Then I have class from 3-9:30 on Tuesdays so I'm out and about alll day between that, the baby sitter's and preschool. AND THEN on Wednesday and Thursday I spent ALLL day with my sister cooking applesauce, apple pie filling and apple butter! It was my first foray into canning and daaaaaaaaaaaang was it a lot of work. I told P that I now understand how people could go to bed at dark in the olden days..LOL! I'm STILL recovering!  I burned a batch of apple butter in the crockpot overnight so here's what I ended up with:

apples

It ended up being 2 jars of CLEAN applesauce,  6 jars of CLEAN apple pie filling and 12 jars of CLEAN apple butter!  I'm so excited to have CLEAN stuff!  Mostly in this instance, clean means sugar free but you can't tell the difference because we used agave nectar instead.  The applesauce isn't actually anything but apples, it doesn't need sweetener.

My sister ended up with less apple butter and more applesauce because that's what she wanted but I thought it was more cost effective this way since you can buy applesauce so cheap.

apple-labelsI also made the little labels for the jars from Kay Miller's Apple Snapple Kit! Yay for new ways to use scrap stuff!

So stinkin' cute!

I had a lot of fun with this old fashioned stuff..maybe I have a little Susie Homemaker at heart after all!

Next week (or the week after) we're doing tomatoes! Sauce, Diced, Spaghetti Sauce..etc etc! Yum!

We need to invest in a pressure cooker and then we'll start canning fajita mix, stews and diced chicken, etc.  My goal is to get the pantry niced and stocked up for those leaner months ahead when we don't have as much money to buy food as I'd like.  We always end up buying crap and with our clean diet, that could be a disaster!

Does anyone else can?  What else is a good idea to can?

I also made my own yogurt cheese this week and am thinking about baking some bread tomorrow.  I made yuuuummmy clean banana bread this week but of course it's gone already.  Something about the fall brings out the Martha Stewart in me, I must have some squirrel or bear in my lineage..hahahah!

All this canning lead to a shortage in time for work this week though...eeeeek! SO I put out an adorable alpha and a new stitch set, so hopefully that's enough :D

Have a great weekend!!

Those are so cute! Love that you are making all this "clean". I wish I could motivate myself to start cooking like that.
